Jody Wilson-Raybould Begins Breast Cancer Treatment After Surgery
Former federal politician and Indigenous activist Jody Wilson-Raybould has announced that she will begin treatment for breast cancer. The 52-year-old lawyer revealed in a social media post on Monday that she recently underwent surgery and is now preparing to start her treatment journey.
In her heartfelt message, Wilson-Raybould expressed gratitude for the support she has received throughout her career. “While this is scary and unsettling, I take strength from the many of you who have shared your stories of resilience and healing with me over the years,” she stated. She also thanked her surgical team and the British Columbia Cancer Agency for their exceptional care.
Political Background and Advocacy
Raised in a community that values resilience, Wilson-Raybould has had a notable political career. She was elected as a federal Liberal Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville in 2015 and subsequently appointed as Attorney General in the cabinet of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Her resignation from the cabinet in 2019 was a significant moment in Canadian politics, leading to her re-election as an independent candidate. She chose not to run in the 2021 election.
Since her time in office, Wilson-Raybould has focused on writing, having authored or co-authored four books. She is currently working on a new book about leadership in collaboration with Roshan Danesh, a lawyer based in Victoria.
Wilson-Raybould also took the opportunity to encourage others to prioritize their health. She urged the public to undergo regular mammograms and screenings for various cancers and other illnesses, emphasizing the importance of early detection.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Wilson-Raybould’s resilience and commitment to advocacy continue to inspire many. Her journey will be closely watched by both supporters and the broader community as she tackles this health challenge head-on.
