Former federal politician and Indigenous activist Jody Wilson-Raybould has announced that she is beginning treatment for breast cancer following recent surgery. The former Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville shared the news in a heartfelt social media post, expressing gratitude for the support she has received from those who have shared their own health journeys with her.

In her statement, Wilson-Raybould conveyed her feelings about the diagnosis, saying, “While this is scary and unsettling, I take strength from the many of you who have shared your stories of resilience and healing with me over the years. I am also so grateful to my surgeons and the British Columbia Cancer Agency for their wonderful care.”

Wilson-Raybould, who served as Attorney General in Justin Trudeau‘s cabinet after being elected as a federal Liberal in 2015, has had a notable political career. She resigned from the cabinet in 2019 amidst controversies surrounding the handling of the SNC-Lavalin case. Subsequently, she ran for a second term as an independent candidate. Although she did not seek re-election in 2021, she has remained active in public discourse, writing or co-authoring four books since leaving office.

As she embarks on her treatment journey, Wilson-Raybould emphasized the importance of regular health screenings. She has encouraged others to prioritize their health by getting regular mammograms and tests for other cancers and illnesses. Her advocacy for health awareness underscores her commitment to community leadership, a theme she is exploring in her upcoming book on leadership, which she is co-authoring with Roshan Danesh, a lawyer based in Victoria.

Through her health challenges, Wilson-Raybould continues to engage with her audience, highlighting her resilience and determination to contribute to important conversations about health and leadership. As she navigates this personal journey, her openness serves as a reminder of the strength found in sharing experiences and supporting one another through difficult times.
