Community Mourns the Passing of Linda Jean Meunier at 67
Linda Jean Meunier, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 67 years old. Linda’s journey began on November 22, 1955, when she was born in Barrhead to Doreen and Erhard Frescher. Her life was marked by dedication to family, work, and community.
A Life of Love and Family
Linda spent her formative years in Drayton Valley before returning to Barrhead, where she completed her high school education. On March 16, 1974, she married her soulmate, Lyle Meunier. They settled in the community of Mosside, where Lyle worked on the family farm, and Linda dedicated her time to the BarrNorth Veterinary Clinic until she decided to focus on her family. They welcomed their daughters, Kim in 1979 and Kristy in 1983.
After raising her children, Linda worked for 30 years as an X-ray Clerk at the Barrhead Hospital until her retirement. Her greatest joy came from being a wife and mother, as she was the heart and soul of her family.
Legacy of Kindness and Community Spirit
Linda was known for her exceptional cooking skills and her beautifully maintained yard and garden. She cherished the seasons of calving and harvest, and enjoyed camping trips with family and friends. Linda had a passion for country music and dancing, and she relished competitive card games. Christmas held a special place in her heart, as she decorated her yard each year with festive lights.
“With her kind heart, thoughtful nature, and ability to make people laugh, Linda touched everyone she knew,” her family shared.
She faced every challenge with determination and grace, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path. Linda is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lyle; her daughters, Kimberly and Kristy (Ryan Zelman); her sisters, Diane (Ken Reich) and Kelly (Terry Adelman); along with numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws, Paul and Elsie Meunier, and her brother Allen. Her family expresses deep gratitude to friends and relatives for their support during this difficult time, as well as to the staff at the Barrhead Healthcare Center. Special thanks go to Dr. De Waal, Dr. Tawfik, Dr. Bernes, Linda Knapp, and the entire chemotherapy team at the Barrhead Cancer Center.
A Celebration of Linda’s life will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2024, at 14:00 at the MTM Hall in Tiger Lily. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Barrhead Healthcare Center Auxiliary (Barrhead Cancer Center) at 4815 – 51 Avenue, Barrhead, Alberta T7N 1M1. Arrangements are under the care of Rose Garden Chapel in Barrhead. Condolences and memories can be shared on Linda’s obituary at rosegardenchapel.com.
