Yorkville Public Library Unveils Exciting December Activities for Kids
The Yorkville Public Library is launching a vibrant array of activities for children this December, designed to keep them engaged during the winter break. With hands-on programs ranging from storytimes to creative workshops, the library offers families an opportunity to explore and learn together.
Winter Activities and Programs
Among the highlights is the **Escape Room Adventure**, where families can work together to unlock clues and complete challenges within a 30-minute timeframe. Interested participants can schedule their appointment by contacting the Youth Service Department at **630-553-4354 ext 108**.
Additionally, the library is hosting a **3D Printing** tutorial led by **Leah English**. This virtual session introduces participants to **Tinkercad**, a user-friendly 3D CAD design tool. Attendees can create objects for printing, with a fee of **$0.20 per gram** for the final product. This workshop is available on the library’s YouTube channel, allowing flexibility for aspiring designers.
Children can also enjoy **Drop-In Story Time** every Friday at **10:30 a.m.**, where a volunteer from The Friends of the Library will be reading engaging stories in the children’s area.
Another exciting initiative is the **Winter Read Challenge**, running from **December 1 to February 28**. Participants can pick up a Winter Reading Tracker and earn **mythical creature playing cards** for every **120 minutes** of reading completed. The more they read, the more unique cards they can collect.
Special Events and Clubs
On **December 2 and 16**, the library will offer **Mommy and Me Yoga** sessions at **10:30 a.m.** This class combines storytelling with simple yoga poses and breathing exercises, fostering a fun bonding experience for parents and children.
For those interested in literature, the library is hosting book clubs for various age groups. A **Book Club for Grades 1-2** will meet on **December 20** at **9:30 a.m.** to discuss **“Dodsworth in London”** by **Tim Egan**. Similarly, a club for **Grades 3-5** will focus on **“The True Gift”** by **Patricia MacLachlan** on **December 11 and 18** at **4:30 p.m.** Registration for these clubs is available on the library’s website.
LEGO enthusiasts can partake in a special event from **December 8 to 13**, where participants can create with themed LEGO kits during library hours. Their creations will be displayed within the library, showcasing the community’s creativity.
Families can look forward to **Santa at the Library** on **December 13** at **9:15 a.m.**, where children can meet Santa Claus and take photos. Following that, the **Polar Express** event will occur at **9:30 a.m.** and **10:30 a.m.**, offering cookies and milk while reading the beloved holiday story.
The library will also host **Family Trivia Night** on **December 10** at **6:00 p.m.**, where teams can compete in answering questions related to holiday media and history, with prizes for the top teams.
As the month wraps up, the **Countdown to Noon Party** on **December 30** at **11:00 a.m.** invites families to celebrate the New Year with crafts and games, making it a delightful way to end 2025.
Yorkville Public Library operates from **Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.**, **Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.**, and **Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.** For those who prefer not to enter the building, curbside service is available.
