Red Deer Public Schools has announced a significant investment of $3.1 million in provincial funding aimed at upgrading facilities across several schools. Key projects include extensive roof repairs at both Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School and Eastview Middle School, set to enhance the infrastructure and safety of the learning environments for students.

As part of its 2026 facility maintenance plan, the school district will allocate $1 million for roof repairs at Lindsay Thurber and $312,500 for similar improvements at Eastview Middle School. Additionally, Lindsay Thurber will receive $225,000 for new heat pumps, $60,000 for classroom upgrades, and $50,000 for a new security vestibule to improve safety measures.

Comprehensive Upgrade Strategy

The maintenance and repair projects were formally approved by the school board last week. The planning process for these upgrades typically begins in the fall, with consultations involving school principals to identify the most pressing needs. Most construction work is scheduled for the summer months to minimize disruption to classroom activities.

Funding for this initiative comes from two key provincial programs: the Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal program, valued at $1.4 million, and the Capital Maintenance and Renewal program, which will contribute $1.7 million for the 2025-26 school year. In total, more than 40 projects will be undertaken across nearly two dozen schools within the Red Deer Public Schools district.

Additional Projects Across Schools

Several other schools will also benefit from this funding, including:

$300,000 for Gateway Christian School for a heat pump replacement and roof work.
$75,000 for millwork upgrades in the Foods Room at Glendale Sciences and Technology School.
$60,000 for library renovations at West Park Elementary School.
$44,000 for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades at Aspen Heights Elementary School.
$40,000 for reconfiguring main entrances at G.W. Smith Elementary School and Mattie McCullough Elementary School.

These improvements are part of a broader commitment by Red Deer Public Schools to enhance educational facilities in the region, ensuring that students have safe and conducive environments for learning.
