Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) is set to expand its educational offerings by introducing an aviation program in partnership with the City of Morris, Morris Municipal Airport, and D14 Aviation. Announced on March 15, 2024, this initiative aims to equip high school students with essential skills in aeronautics and aviation.

The new curriculum will cover key subjects, including aviation maintenance, flight science, and various career pathways within the aerospace industry. “Our goal has always been to give students a competitive edge in today’s workforce,” stated Lance Copes, Director of GAVC. He emphasized that this collaboration not only broadens the educational scope but also provides students with direct exposure to aviation careers within their community.

Real-World Learning Opportunities

The partnership with Morris Municipal Airport will enable students to gain practical experience in an operational aviation environment. Participants will have the chance to interact with industry professionals, observe airport operations, and engage in hands-on training. This practical exposure is designed to help students earn certifications and explore advanced educational opportunities after graduating high school.

“We’re proud to support this initiative that not only invests in the future of our students but also aligns with the continued growth and development of Morris Municipal Airport and the regional economy,” remarked Chris Brown, Mayor of Morris. His support highlights the broader implications of the program for local economic development.

As the aviation sector continues to grow, the demand for skilled professionals is on the rise. This program positions GAVC students to be at the forefront of a lucrative field, allowing them to develop critical skills and connections early in their careers.

More details regarding program enrollment, curriculum specifics, and informational sessions are expected to be released in the coming months. Interested individuals can visit www.gavc-il.org or check the Grundy Area Vocational Center Facebook page for updates on this exciting new opportunity.
