The Grundy Area Vocational Center (GAVC) has announced an exciting new initiative that will allow high school students to explore careers in aviation. The center, located in Morris, Illinois, is partnering with the City of Morris, Morris Municipal Airport, and D14 Aviation to establish a comprehensive aviation program. This new class will provide students with a curriculum that covers aeronautics, aviation maintenance, and flight science, along with pathways to careers within the aerospace industry.

Lance Copes, Director of the Grundy Area Vocational Center, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “Our goal has always been to give students a competitive edge in today’s workforce. This partnership allows us to expand into a high-demand field and offer students direct exposure to aviation careers, right here in our community.”

The collaboration with the Morris Municipal Airport and the City of Morris is designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences in a real-world aviation environment. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with aviation professionals, observe airport operations, and partake in practical training that may lead to certifications and further educational opportunities after high school.

Mayor Chris Brown of Morris expressed his support for the initiative, highlighting its significance not only for students but also for the regional economy. “We’re proud to support this initiative that not only invests in the future of our students but also aligns with the continued growth and development of Morris Municipal Airport and the regional economy,” he stated.

This aviation program is expected to launch in the upcoming academic year, with detailed information about enrollment, curriculum specifics, and informational sessions set to be released in the coming months. Students interested in learning more about this innovative program can visit the official GAVC website at www.gavc-il.org or check out the Grundy Area Vocational Center’s Facebook page for updates.

As the demand for skilled professionals in the aviation sector continues to grow, this partnership stands as a significant step towards equipping the next generation with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in this dynamic field.
