Prince Edward County Invests $855,941 in Sanitary Infrastructure
The County of Prince Edward has initiated essential infrastructure work on York St in Picton to maintain reliable sanitary sewer services for nearly 400 residential and commercial properties. The County Council awarded the contract for this project to Cobourg Development Services Ltd. on September 23, 2023, as part of its commitment to addressing deteriorating sanitary conditions.
The project received approval in the 2024 capital budget, with a tender awarded for $855,941 plus HST. Funding will be sourced from reserves allocated for water and wastewater capital projects, as well as the reserve for road construction. This investment underscores the municipality’s prioritization of infrastructure maintenance and public health.
County officials have classified this project as a high priority due to the aging infrastructure that poses risks to both residents and businesses in the area. The improvements aim to enhance the overall reliability of the sanitary sewer services, which are crucial for the community’s day-to-day operations.
The decision to proceed with the project aligns with ongoing efforts by the County to ensure that essential services meet the growing demands of its population. As infrastructure needs evolve, the County remains committed to investing in projects that support sustainable development and community well-being.
Residents can expect updates throughout the project’s duration as the County works to minimize disruptions while ensuring the timely completion of these vital improvements.
