Conservatives Set to Discuss Key Policies at Calgary Convention
The Conservative Party of Canada is preparing for a significant convention to be held in Calgary from January 29 to 31, 2025. This marks the first gathering since the party’s defeat in the April 2025 federal election. Delegates from across the country will convene to debate a series of policy proposals that address economic issues, resource sector challenges, and cultural topics such as abortion and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
As the party seeks to redefine its platform, many proposals align with the messaging of Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre. His focus on stricter crime policies, merit-based systems over DEI initiatives, and a commitment to limit immigration aims to tackle the pressing demand for housing and social services. Additionally, the development of energy pipelines is expected to be a central topic of discussion, reflecting the party’s priorities in resource management.
The proposals to be debated come from various riding associations, highlighting a diverse range of perspectives within the Conservative Party. This convention provides a crucial opportunity for members to voice their views and influence the party’s direction moving forward.
In light of the recent electoral setback, the Conservative Party is under pressure to present a cohesive and compelling agenda that resonates with voters. The discussions in Calgary will likely shape the party’s strategic approach as it prepares for future elections.
As the convention approaches, attention will be on how effectively the party can navigate these critical issues, balancing economic growth with social responsibility. The outcomes of these debates may have lasting implications for the Conservative Party’s identity and electoral prospects in the coming years.
